Gomito / Gomito Exhibition

THE PROJECT

GOMITO/ GOMITO exhibition curated by a group of international and young art professionals, is the final outcome of a peer-led collaborative project developed by the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi on the occasion of Verrocchio, the Master of Leonardo in collaboration with educational institutions in the florentine art scene. The twentieth century has seen the opening of the fields of art production and the idea of individuality is being increasingly questioned. A new prominence is being given to community projects and the elucidation of the interdisciplinary network involved in the creative process.

THE CONCEPT

Gomito a gomito, “elbow to elbow”, is an italian bodily metaphor that suggests the idea of working together side by side, sharing the same physical and conceptual space. This concept, shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, back to back, arm to arm and cheek to cheek... can be found in different languages. The modern mindset of the duality of globalisation and diminishing ego has been combined with ever increasing technological innovation and almost instantaneous transference of information. This has resulted in the rethinking of the world by putting the emphasis on negotiation, sharing and the discovery of common ground.
